NIFT Entrance Exam –  National Institute of Fashion Technology Entrance Exam acronym as NIFT Entrance Exam is conducted by National Institute of Fashion Technology- the leading Institute of Fashion Technology-  every year in the month of February for admission to following give graduate and post graduate programme:

  1. Bachelor of Design
  2. Master of Design
  3. Bachelor of Fashion Technology
  4. Master of Fashion Management
  5. Master of Fashion Technology

NIFT Entrance Exam Eligibility :-

Eligibility Criteria for Bachelor Programs:

  1. B.Design (Fashion Design / Leather Design / Accessory Design / Textile Design / Knitwear Design / Fashion Communication)

Educational Qualification +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognised Central/State Board of Secondary Examination or equivalent or General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.

Age Aspiring candidates should be 23 yrs for applying in bachelor Programs as on 1st November of the respective year.

2. B.F Tech. (Apparel Production)

Educational Qualification The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognised Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, with Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Candidate must be pass in Physics, Chemistry & Maths.

Age Aspiring candidates should be 23 yrs for applying in bachelor Programs as on 1st November of the respective year.

Eligibility for Master Program – Management

  1. M.F.M. (Master of Fashion Management) Educational Qualification A three years Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities or Diploma in Accessory / Fashion Design / FIT from Nift only.

Eligibility for Master Program – Technology 1. M.F Tech. (Master of Fashion Technology)

Educational Qualification:  B.E./B.Tech.(Textiles/Apparel/Mechanical/Industrial/Production/Electronics/Computer/Information Technology)

Eligibility for Master Program – Design 1. M.Des. (Master of Design)

Educational Qualification Graduation Degree from a recognised University in any discipline or Bachelor in Applied Arts (Fashion Design/ Visual Communication/ Graphic Design/ Industrial Design/ Interor Design/ Multimedia Design/ Product Design/ Textiles & Accessories) or B.A. (Fine Arts) or B.Sc. (Textiles & Clothing)or B.Arch. or Design Diploma/ Degree from Nift/NID only. Candidates having relevant industry experience in areas of Fashion/ Textile/ Communication Design would be preferred.

Age A candidate for this examination must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the 1st January, of the year he is taking the exam.

NIFT Entrance Exam Pattern :-

NIFT Entrance Exam consist of objective multiple choice type of question carrying one marks each with negative marking at the rate of 0.25 for each wrong answer. The test will be in two different stages as given below:

On the basis of result of written test GAT and CAT, B.Des candidates will be called for second test called Situation Test.

For B.F.Tech., GAT will be the final test for selection .The candidates for M.Des will take GAT and CAT. On the basis of result of GAT and CAT, in case of M.Des. and GAT in case of M.F Tech and MFM, candidates will be called for Group Discussion/Personal Interview.

Situation Test:

Shortlisted candidates for B.Des. from the written entrance examination are required to undergo a Situation Test which is a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials.

No additional material will be provided / allowed.

Model will be evaluated on Space Visualization, Innovative and creative use of given material, composition of elements, colour scheme, construction skill , finesse of the model and overall presentation etc. These parameters will be checked with the write up explaining the concept / idea behind the model constructed. The weightage of the write up is 30%. Since the medium of teaching in NIFT is English, the write-up will be in English language. No marks will be given for write-up in any other language.

Group Discussion:

Shortlisted candidates for Masters Programs from the written entrance examination are required to undergo Case Study based Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). GD would comprise of approximately 15 to 20 minutes of discussion on a case study assigned, on which a panel of experts will assess the candidates on the following parameters:

  4. Interpersonal skills
  5. Ability to generate new ideas 67

Personal Interview:

NIFT Entrance Exam Syllabus :-

NIFT Entrance Exam comprises of the following given papers and Personality test of such candidates who qualify on the basis of the written examination.

1. General Ability Test (GAT) Quantitative Ability It consists of questions on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, Distance, Profit & Loss, Algebra and Geometry, etc. of the level of matriculation.

For Bachelor programme in Technology Consists of questions on Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics, and Fundamentals of Computer Applications.

For Master programme in Technology Consists of questions on Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics, Linear Programming, Fundamentals of Computer Applications, Production Engineering, etc. of the level of graduation.

Communication Ability It includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, etc.

English Comprehension This is to test one’s ability to comprehend a situation from a given passage.

Analytical Ability It is designed to test one’s ability to comprehend a situation from a given passage.

Market Domain-Test (only for Bachelor programme in Design)

This test is aimed to evaluate the candidate’s knowledge and awareness about the Fashion Industry, Designers, knowledge in the field of Art & Culture.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs (for bachelors and masters programmes in technology & management programmes) – This test is designed to test the candidates general knowledge and current affairs.

2. Creative Ability Test (CAT) (for Bachelor programme in Design) This test is taken to test the skill, power of observation, innovation and design ability of the candidate. An important aspect of the test is the candidate’s usage of colour and illustration.

3. Managerial Ability Test (MAT) Case Study It is based on a situation of an industry environment. It helps to evaluate the candidate’s managerial ability.

Business Domain Test It is to judge the knowledge of a candidate on fundamentals of textiles, apparel industry, import and export sectors, WTO issues related to textiles, apparel brands, etc.

Logical Ability It is aimed to evaluate the candidate’s ability to identify the logic or reason involved in a particular problem given and applying the logic in solving the problem. Concepts and practice of creative and lateral thinking are likely to be useful.

How to apply for NIFT Entrance Exam?

Aspiring candidates can apply online at www.nift.ac.in.  The applicant need not buy the Admission Prospectus as the Prospectus is available at NIFT website www.nift.ac.in free of cost.

NIFT Entrance Exam Fee and mode of payment :-

The Application Fees has to be paid either through online payment gateway or through Bank Demand Draft issued in favour of “NIFT HO” payable at New Delhi.

  • Fees for General/OBC (Non-Creamy) Category: Rs.1200 
  • Fees for SC/ ST/ PHP Category: Rs.600

Mode of Payment: Credit Cards/Debit Cards & Demand Draft

Credit Cards /Debit Cards:

Payments of application fee (Rs.1200/- or Rs.600/-) can be made through credit cards / debit cards as explained. The Bank and transaction charges on the application fee will be borne by the applicant. Candidates are advised to apply on time. Candidates can apply after 10th Jan 2014 with late fees, through credit/debit cards and Demand Draft.

Demand Draft:

Payment of application fee (Rs 1200 in case of GEN/OBC (Non-Creamy) candidates and Rs 600 in case of SC/ST/PHP candidates) can be made through Bank Demand Draft as explained. The Demand Draft should be issued in favour of “NIFT HO”, payable at New Delhi. The details of the Demand Draft are to be filled in the online application form.

Candidates are advised to check the following details carefully before sending the Demand Draft

  • DD made in favour of “NIFT HO” ,
  • Amount of Demand Draft as applicable i.e. Rs. 1200 in case of GEN/OBC (Non-Creamy) candidates and Rs. 600 in case of SC/ST/PHP candidates
  • Signature of the issuing authority on the Demand Draft.

Candidates applying through Demand Draft are required to send the printout of the Application Form, duly completed in all respect, along with Demand Draft on the following address:

Printed Prospectus:

The applicant applying online need not buy the Admission Prospectus as the Prospectus is available at NIFT websitewww.nift.ac.in free of cost. However, printed copy of the Prospectus can be obtained from any of the 15 NIFT Campuses on payment of Rs.200 or by post enclosing a DD of Rs.300 in favour of NIFT, payable at the NIFT Campus.

NIFT Entrance Exams Selection Process The Qualified candidates in the written test will be invited for –

1. Situation Test (only for Design programme) Shortlisted candidates from the written entrance examination are required to undergo a Situation Test which is a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials.

2. Psychometric Test (for master’s programmes in technology & management programmes) This is an assessment test that measures the general competencies. The competencies measured fall into two groups : Task Oriented and People Oriented Competencies. This assessment test measures both the task and people oriented competencies.

3. Group Discussion During Group Discussions of nearly 10-15 minutes a panel of experts will assess the candidate’s Conceptual clarity his/her Knowledge of the topic assigned, Interpersonal skills, Ability to generate new ideas along with his/her Problem solving approach and Leadership qualities.

4. Personal Interview In this aspect of the candidate’s selection process the candidate is tested on the various parameters like,Career orientation, Aptness for the field, Overall personality traits along with General awareness and aptitude. The final merit list of the entrance examination will be as under:
