NID functions as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. NID has been recognized as a Science and Industrial Research Organization by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. The NID Entrance Exam – DAT or NEED- score remains valid for one year and it is used only at the time of admission.

NID Entrance Exam Eligibility :-

Eligibility For B.Des Programm:

Educational Qualification:

Students securing at least 50%  marks in aggregate at 10+2 level or its equivalent  in any stream from a recognized board can apply for the examination. Candidate who are studying in the qualifying class can also apply for the exam, but at the time of admission, they must provide the eligibility proof.  

Age Limit:

Upper age limit for aspiring candidate is 20 years (relaxable by 3 year for reserved category candidates) as on 1st Jun this year/Next year.

Eligibility For M.Des Programm :-

Educational Qualification:

Aspiring candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree in the related area are eligible to apply for M.Des programme. Candidate who are studying in the qualifying class can also apply for the exam, but at the time of admission, they must provide the eligibility proof.  

Age Limit :

Upper age limit for aspiring candidate is 30 years (relaxable by 3 year for reserved category candidates) as on 1st Jun, next year.

NID Entrance Exam Syllabus :-

NID Entrance Exam consists of questions from the following topics:

The written examination is followed by studio test and personal interview. The examination doesn’t follow any prescribed syllabus and the question are included from the following area:

NID Entrance Exam Pattern:

NID Entrance Exam consists of three aptitude test of 60 marks each made to evaluates the candidate’s aptitude and creativity along with innovative and critical analyzing power of the applicant. NID test areas include:

  • Communication Skills

NID written examination is followed by studio test and personal interview for the final selection.

NID Entrance Exam Dates:

NID Entrance Exam is normally held in the month of January every year.

How to apply for NID Entrance Exam?

Aspiring candidates can apply for NID Entrance exam by getting it downloaded from official website admissions.nid.edu.

The completed application forms may be posted to NID/handed over physically with self attested supporting documents and Demand Draft of Rs.1,500/- drawn on any Nationalized bank in favour of ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedaba with your name and address at the back side of the demand draft.

OBC (Other Backward Class) candidates are required to submit non-creamy layer certi­cate from Collectorate.

Note: The OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Certi­cate should be submitted in the format given on our website. Other formats will not be accepted. The certi­cate should be issued after March 31, 2015. Failing to submit the certi­cate as given here, the application form will be rejected. 

The application form may be downloaded from our website admissions.nid.edu. The completed application forms may be posted to NID/handed over  physically with supporting documents and Demand Draft of RS.750/- drawn on any Nationalized bank in favour of ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedabad.

The applicant should also send in a self attested copy of the relevant reserved category (SC/ST/PH/OBC-Non Creamy Layer) certi­cate from competent authority.

Self Attested copies of Caste/Category Certi­cates required from SC/ST/PH Category Candidates:

  • SC/ST category candidates must attach relevant certi­cates of Caste/ Category from the District Collectorate as per the Government of India rules/ format, otherwise the application form will be rejected. 
  • PH (Physically Handicapped) category candidates are required to submit certi­cate from the Chief Medical Of­cer (minimum 40% disability).

NID Entrance Exam Fee:

NID Entrance Exam fee is Rs.1500 (Rs.750 for reserved candidates) as if now but the candidates are advised to make it sure before taking up the application form.
